our brochure
What troop has hiked the entire John Muir Trail, 267 miles, in one summer? Look in July '89 Boy's Life for the answer. Or what troop hiked from the south rim to the north rim of the Grand Canyon and back (75 miles), and then climbed Mt. Whitney for a change of scenery (another 84 miles)?
Troop 401 was one of the pioneers and developers of the "High Adventure" program in scouting. While we no longer have a retired scoutmaster and cannot plan summer-long treks, we still stay true to our traditions and offer a challenging and exciting program that focuses on outdoor skills.
Troop 401 has a rich tradition of hiking, backpacking and High Adventure, while embodying the ideals of scouting with service to the community. We go into the outdoors each and every month, rain or shine, snow or storm. Check our calendar to see what exciting adventures lie ahead.
Troop 401 is a boy-run adventure troop, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Pleasant Hill that has graduated 83 Eagle Scouts since 1969. We are a troop that builds leaders out of young boys.
We are part of the Iron Horse District of the Mt. Diablo - Silverado Council, Boys Scouts of America.

Leadership
The troop is boy-run. The adults provide support but the boys make the decisions. To help them in these responsibilities, Troop 401 has adopted the use of "Lead The Way". This manual establishes the guidelines to help them succeed in becoming better leaders and better scouts, ultimately building a better troop.Training for Adults and Youth Leaders
A major part of a successful troop is having trained adult and youth leaders. As a high adventure troop, we need to maintain a reservoir of talent for our outings and leadership. Our troop has a great policy on training: WE PAY FOR IT. Some of these courses are offered by our council's HAT (High Adventure Team). Check out the training opportunities on the council website. There are rank/age requirements for some of them. Call or email Dennis if interested.Brochure: download and print our brochure (.pdf format)
